Ireland's Paul McKee also failed to make much of an impression when beaten into third place over 400m in tonight's GE Galan indoor meeting in Stockholm.
McKee, who shared the bronze medal with Jamie Baulch in last year's world indoors, finished in a time of 47.62secs as Jamaica's Davian Clarke won in 46.21secs.
In the 400 'B' race, Londoner Andre Fernandez was out of contention when finishing fourth in a time of 48.47secs. Spain's David Canal won in 48.47secs.
Elsewhere, world 1500 metres silver medallist Kelly Holmes suffered an unexpected defeat despite running her second quickest-ever metric mile indoors of four minutes 04.83 seconds.
Holmes was edged out of victory by Alesya Turova who ran the fastest time in the world this year. Better known as the former world 3,000m steeplechase record holder, Turova ran a superb race to ruin Holmes' hopes of victory.
In a marvellous contest, with both athletes giving everything they had, Turova won by little more than a stride in 4:04.42. Not only was it a personal best for Turova, it broke her own Belarus record of 4:05.69 which she achieved last February when second at the same Swedish event.
