A man who pleaded guilty to keeping two brothels in Dublin has been given one week to make a donation of £5,000 to the court "poor box" or face a prison sentence. Brian O'Byrne (36), of Templeview Row, Clarehall, off the Malahide Road, Dublin, pleaded guilty in Dublin District Court yesterday to two charges of keeping a brothel at North Lotts and Parnell Street in the city.
Judge Desmond Windle remanded O'Byrne, a father of three, on continuing bail to September 15th and said that the £5,000 would save him from immediate imprisonment. Judge Windle also made orders for the destruction of some items found at the brothels, including condoms, handcuffs and sex aids. He ordered the forfeiture of video equipment found on the premises.
The court was told that the premises at both locations had been under Garda surveillance after complaints from local businesses and residents.
