Man charged with demanding money for UVF

A man was charged in Belfast today with blackmail on behalf of the UVF.

A man was charged in Belfast today with blackmail on behalf of the UVF.

Mr Samuel Todd Robinson (32), of no fixed address, was arrested after a businessman was attacked in his home by a number of armed and masked man.

Mr Robinson was charged with demanding £2,500 with menaces from the Belfast businessman, imprisoning him at his home in Bangor on January 16th, threatening to kill him and collecting money for a proscribed organisation, the UVF.

A detective told the Magistrates Court Mr Robinson made no reply to the charges.

He was remanded in custody until February 19th.
