A 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and a number of other offences after an incident in which a lorry crashed into a police car in Belfast on Friday.

The lorry collided with the police car and another vehicle at St James's Park off the Falls Road after police officers had followed it from the M1 motorway.

Shots were fired by police during the incident and the lorry was brought to a halt.

The man arrested will appear before Belfast Magistrates Court at Laganside at 10am tomorrow morning, a PSNI spokesman said.
