Kilenny 2-24 Offaly 0-12: Kilkenny ripped into opponents Offaly in the second half to book their spot in another Leinster hurling final in Portlaoise this afternoon with an 18 point win.

Offaly trailed by six at halftime after a spirited first period but with Henry Shefflin back in their ranks the champions were never going to be stopped.

On his return from injury Shefflin wasted no time in getting back into the swing of things with three early points, two from frees.

Cha Fitzpatrick notched a fourth for the Cats but Offaly were up for the fight and two points from Brian Carroll and one from Derek Molloy kept them in touch.

Shefflin kept the scoreboard ticking over, however, and after a switch to full forward Martin Comerford hit the net for Kilkenny to give them a 1-09 to 0-06 lead at the break.

Comerford and Eddie Brennan picked up where they left off in the second half, though the latter's effort seconds after the restart looked to have gone wide.

It mattered little. Kilkenny pointed another 13 and substitute Aiden Fogarty grabbed a goal as Offaly struggled to add another six.

Speaking afterwards Kilkenny manager Brian Cody said: "It was a very tough first half, I thought Offaly were very good in the first half.

"I think the most important part was the first half of the game where it was really competitive and our lads showed great commitment and got stuck in very well, giving us a chance to go on and build a lead in the second half."

Kilkenny will meet either Dublin or Wexford in the final after the two played out a draw at Nowlan Park yesterday.
