Up to 3,000 Irish speakers, traditional singers, dancers and performers are expected to converge on Corca Dhuibhne next month for the FΘile Samhna d'Oireachtas na Gaeilge, the Hallowe'en Festival.
Oireachtas na Gaeilge organises two annual festivals of music, drama and dance. One is the FΘile Samhna, which is held in different Gaeltacht areas. The other is run in Dublin over the May bank holiday weekend.
According to organising committee chairman, Mr M∅cheβl de M≤rdha, the highlight of the four-day festival will be the sean n≤s singing competition for Corn U∅ Riada, the ╙ Riada Cup.
"Traditional Gaeltacht singers, both young and experienced, from all the Gaeltachta∅ including our own in Kerry, and the others in Connemara, Ring, Muscra∅, Donegal, Mayo and Meath, will try to prise the cup away from the Barna parish in Connemara, where it has been in almost permanent residence," he added.
At this year's festival, the Irish Language Media Awards for journalists, which were postponed earlier this year due to the foot-and-mouth scare, will be presented.
