The Irish Red Cross has said it is "deeply saddened" by the attack at the Red Cross office in Baghdad that killed at least ten people earlier today.
Mr David Andrews, chairman of the IRC, said the future of Red Cross operations in Iraq are now being considered at the Geneva headquarters.
"This attack is a cause for enormous sorrow," said Mr Andrews. "I feel deeply saddened by yet more deaths amongst our colleagues in Baghdad.
"The situation in Baghdad clearly remains extremely dangerous for ordinary civilian people and for people like ourselves who are engaged in humanitarian work."
This is the third time that Red Cross workers have been killed in Baghdad in the last six months. Earlier this year a Canadian national and a Sri Lankan national were shot dead in two separate incidents.
