Woman charged with illegally chartering planes to be tried

A woman charged with illegally chartering planes to bring Munster rugby fans to European matches has been sent forward for trial. Pamela Hickey (37), Ashford, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday on three charges. Two charges relate to allegations of chartering the services of Monarch Airlines by deception in December 2004 and January 2005 in relation to two return flights from Shannon airport to Gatwick. She faces one charge of forgery contrary to the Criminal Justice and Theft Act.

Yesterday Ms Hickey, who is on bail, received books of evidence in relation to the case, which has been sent forward to the next sittings of Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

Wexford man is farmer of the year

A farmer from Gorey, Co Wexford, has been named 2010 FBD Young Farmer of the Year.

Paul Kehoe (34) is a beef farmer who also runs sheep and tillage. He won the top prize of a specially commissioned piece by artist Peter McGuire and a travel bursary worth €3,000.

Prizes were also awarded to second place winner Mattie Moore, Rhode, Co Offaly, and third place winner John Joyce, Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

Tomás Beades from Roscommon received the special prize for community involvement while Diarmuid Gryson, representing Dublin, was presented with the award for innovation in farming.

Ten arrested after fight is broken up

Ten people were arrested when gardaí broke up fighting in Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí on patrol in Ballyfermot came across some 30 people fighting with metal bars, baseball bats sticks and golf clubs at 1.45pm

The individuals were all in their late teens and early 20s.

The gardaí called for assistance and arrested ten people. Three of the people were later moved to Clondalkin for practical purposes.

One person was taken to hospital with a wound to their left shoulder. However no one was seriously injured.

Gardaí had not charged any of those being held last night.

Youth held on crack cocaine charges

A youth who was arrested as part of a Garda investigation into street drug dealing has been charged with three counts of supplying crack cocaine. The 17-year-old made no reply to the charges which relate to possessing and supplying drugs at South Circular Road, Dublin, last March.

Judge Eamon O'Brien at Dublin Children's Court granted legal aid to the youth, who was accompanied by his mother, and remanded him on bail to appear again in four weeks.
