A storage depot used by a man suspected of being the main supplier of illicit diesel to the black market in Dublin has been raided in Co Meath.

The man, who is based in west Dublin, is believed to have over 100 customers across the city.

Customs officers and gardaí raided two sites between Ashbourne and Kilmoon Cross early today following a lengthy surveillance operation on the man and his criminal activities.

An estimated 30,000 litres of green diesel, an underground storage tank and an assortment of documentation relating to the laundering of diesel were found at the site.

The operation had the potential to cost the Exchequer an estimated €1.5 million in lost revenue per year.

The customs investigation is continuing and a file is expected to be prepared for the DPP at a later stage.
