Appeals by 47 Romanian gypsies, whose applications for asylum have been refused, will be heard by mid-October, according to the Department of Justice.

The gypsies, who have been accommodated in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, since being smuggled into Ireland in freight containers last month, are expected to appeal the decision next week.
