The man who was stabbed to death in a Dublin bar late last night has been named as Mr Patrick Costello from the East Wall area of the city.

The stabbing occurred after a row broke out between customers at The Plough pub at the junction of Marlborough Street and Abbey Street in Dublin city centre.

It was originally thought a barman had been killed and another injured but gardaí say a customer was the victim of the stabbing and there was no official report of a second injury.

The 31-year-old man received chest wounds after a row broke out in the pub and one man was ejected by staff. He later returned with a knife and stabbed the customer at around 11.40 p.m. before escaping on foot.

The stabbed man was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 1 a.m.

There have been no arrests and gardai have not yet released the name of the dead man. Store Street detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
