Air accident investigators have removed the small plane which crashed in Co Galway on Thursday, killing two people, for further examination.

Seven passengers who survived the crash remain in University College Hospital Galway (UCHG). Three aresaid to be  in a critical condition.

The plane was taken under Garda escort last night to a facility in Gormanstown, Co Meath, where further tests will be conducted by members of the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU)  from the Department of Transport.

Three investigators spent yesterday examining the wreckage at the crash site in a field next to Aerfort na Minna, near Indreabhán, around 30 kilometres west of Galway City.

The Cessna Cessna Grand Camper was making a seven-minute trip from Inis Meáin to Indreabhán when it  crashed.

The air accident investigators said yesterday it was far too early to speculate on what might have occurred, when the plane failed to land on the runway on returning from Inis Meáin.

They AAIU expects to have a preliminary report within 30 days.
