Four people are being held by Gardaí investigating a suspected cross-border money laundering operation.

The four, who include a middle-aged couple from Dublin and a man and woman from Co Down, were arrested in Dundalk this afternoon. A bank draft for £100,000 was recovered at the scene.

Gardaí believe the draft was the proceeds of drug dealing and that the suspects intended to exchange it for sterling.

The arrests were made following a joint operation by the Bureau of Fraud Investigation, the Garda National Drugs Units and detectives in Dundalk.

The suspects are being held under the Drug Trafficking Act in Dundalk and Ashbourne garda stations. They can be held for up to seven days without charge under the Act.
