Kiev - Five miners were killed and four others were injured by an underground methane gas explosion in a coal mine in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, the ministry of emergencies said yesterday. One miner was still trapped at the bottom of the pit after Monday night's blast, which came as 100,000 miners continued a week-old strike across the Ukraine in protest at dangerous conditions and unpaid salaries.
