A Co Kildare farmer has brought a High Court action in a bid to stop the Industrial Development Authority compulsorily acquiring his protected 18th-century home and 72 acres of land.

The IDA moved to compulsorily acquire Thomas Reid’s property near Maynooth after he told them he was not interested in selling, the court was told.

While his land, Hedsor House, Blakestown, adjoins the Carton House estate and the Intel site in Leixlip, Mr Reid said he does not believe his lands are likely to be developed for industrial purposes.

He does not know the purpose of the proposed acquisition, the court heard.
