Firefighters in Northern Ireland evacuated an elderly woman from her home today after fire swept through a neighbouring property in Co Down.

Police are investigating the suspicious blaze at an unoccupied house at Jameson's Court in Warrenpoint early this morning.

The blaze was reported by a member of the public who raised the alarm shortly after 4 a.m.

Fire crews removed the elderly woman from her house for her own safety as the fire spread along the roof, causing substantial damage to both properties.

It is believed the blaze may have been started at the back of the house.
