Up to 800 jobs will be created in west Dublin by online auctioneer Ebay and its subsidiary electronic payment company PayPal.

The Tánaiste, Ms Harney, officially opened the offices of the two companies in Blanchardstown today. Ebay's customer service centre and PayPal's ineternational headquarters are projected to employ around 800 people when fully up to speed in 2005.

Speaking at the opening of PayPal's HQ, Ms Harney said that it was great to see such a rapid start-up with over 200 people recruited already and many more positions to be filled over the coming months.

Ms Harney noted that three of the world's highest profile Internet companies are in Ireland and that they are finding the necessary skills and knowledge here.

"Their presence here is testament to the fact that Ireland is attracting a new type of investment", the Tánaiste added.
