Police in Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, were last looking for the driver of a burgundy-coloured Peugeot 405 car which was involved in a hit-and-run accident with a six-year-old female cyclist. The car, registration number 93 MN 1155, drove off in the direction of the Border after striking the girl at around 7.30 p.m. The child was airlifted by helicopter to nearby Daisy Hill hospital in Newry and was transferred from there to the Royal Victoria in Belfast, where she was said last night to be seriously ill.
