A file has been sent to the DPP following the discovery of a hidden camera in the bathroom of a private house in Kilkenny city.

The rented semi-detached residence was shared by three young women and a young man who was in a relationship with one of the women.

Investigating officers were called to the house after an electrician carrying out repairs in the attic of the house discovered unusual wiring and became suspicious.

He located the camera, which was overlooking the bathroom, and immediately alerted one of the women.

She went to the Garda, which which opened an investigation and prepared a file for the DPP.

No video tapes of the women were discovered in the course of the investigation.

The three women are understood to have made separate statements to gardaí.

None of them was aware of the presence of the recording equipment.
