Gardaí arrest 18 people in ‘day of action’ against crime in Drogheda

Thirty-four searches conducted and seven vehicles seized as part of ‘Operation Stratus’

Gardaí arrested 18 people as part of a "day of action" in Drogheda, Co Louth, on Thursday.

Thirty-four searches were conducted as part of Operation Stratus, which is investigating criminality in the Drogheda area.

Thirty searches were conducted at houses within the Drogheda Garda district and four separate searches were carried out under warrants issued under The Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977, as amended.

Sixteen people were arrested on foot of outstanding warrants and two on suspicion of the commission of criminal acts within the Drogheda district in recent weeks.

Two men, aged 19 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of the commission of criminal acts within the district in recent weeks. One woman was arrested under the Public Order Act.

The 19-year-old man was charged and taken before Dundalk District Court, and the 23-year-old man has since been charged and released on bail.

As part of the same day of action, the Road Policing Unit seized seven vehicles under Section 41 of The Road Traffic Act, 1994, and issued 38 on-the-spot penalty notices for various road-traffic offences.
