Bomb found in house during Finglas search

A homemade bomb was found during a search of a house in north Dublin on Saturday morning.

The Army bomb disposal team was called to the private property to examine a suspect device in Finglas about 10am.

In a statement from the Irish defence forces, it said the gardaí asked for their for help after an “improvised explosive device” was found in the Deanstown area of Finglas.

The device was deemed to be viable and the bomb disposal team took it to a safe military location for deconstruction.

A spokesman said they would hand over items that could be used for evidence to help them with their investigations.

The scene was declared safe at 10.30am.

The search comes after a number of raids on properties around Dublin this week.

On Friday, gardaí searched 10 residential addresses in south Dublin in a co-ordinated operation from about 7am.

Tracking devices, along with drugs, cash and high-value jewellery were found during the raids.

Gardaí believe tracking devices seized from men linked to the Christy Kinahan-led drugs gang were to be used to monitor rival criminals’ movements for the purposes of attacking or intimidating them.

Earlier this week a garda team, led by the Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab), searched 19 residential and business premises in an operation against the top tier Kinahan gang based in Dublin.
