Det Insp Eamon O’Neill of Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick said gardaí were anxious to speak to anoyone who has information on the death.

“We believe that there are persons out there that have information that would be beneficial to the case. Perhaps you were aware of suspicious activity in the run up to or between Saturday, September 23rd and Monday, September 25th and thought nothing of it at the time. Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation.”

“To help people recall the time of year – this was the Saturday after the All-Ireland football final between Dublin and Tyrone.

Det Insp O’Neill said Mr Cusack was known “far and wide throughout the country – especially among those in the farming community” from his dealings in cattle, sheep and horses.

“Had anyone an appointment to meet him that weekend and thought it unusual that he did not turn up? Does anyone recall having made an effort to contact him that weekend and find it unusual that they could not contact him? Remember this was in an era where the mobile phone was in its infancy.”

Crimestoppers requested anyone with information to call its freephone number on 1800 25 00 25. Calls are anonymous.
