Two men charged with the murder of alleged LVF killer David Keys in the Maze prison two years ago have walked free from Belfast Crown Court.

The case against Mr Robin King and Mr Ralph Phillips collapsed when the chief prosecution witness, former prisoner David Patterson, let it be known that he did not wish to return to the witness box to continue his evidence.

Keys (27) was found hanging in his cell in the LVF wing of the prison on March 15th, 1998. A post mortem found he had died from strangulation before he was hung at the window. At the time he was on remand awaiting trial for the LVF double murder in Poyntzpass 12 days earlier.
