A Ballymena, Co Antrim, man was remanded in custody on Saturday charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine, amphetamines and cannabis resin.

Paul Terence Donegan (40), unemployed, Regents Park in the Doury Road estate, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court to face five drugs- related charges, which included possession of cannabis resin and possession of cannabis resin with intent to supply.

A constable told the court that when charged, Mr Donegan replied "not guilty" to all charges, but the officer believed he could connect him to the charges. Police opposed bail while a defence solicitor said a bail application will not be made until later this week.

Supporters of Mr Donegan were warned by the magistrate to keep quiet or else they would be put out of the court.
