London - Trinidad and Tobago withdrew this week from the American Convention on Human Rights because the government wants to be free to execute its citizens away from international scrutiny, Amnesty International said yesterday. Amnesty urged participants in next week's meeting of the Organisation of American States to put pressure on Trinidad to reverse the decision.

Trinidad formally withdrew as a party to the convention on May 26th.
