Alleged IRA men get bail

Two Limerick men charged with IRA membership were freed on bail at the Special Criminal Court yesterday

Two Limerick men charged with IRA membership were freed on bail at the Special Criminal Court yesterday. Mr John Costelloe (33), of O'Dwyer Villas, Thomondgate, and Mr Joseph Shanahan (45), of Athlunkard Street, were charged on Tuesday with IRA membership.

Mr Shanahan was also charged with falsely imprisoning Mr Michael Lyons at New Road, Killeely, Co Limerick, on August 25th, 1996.

Yesterday Mr Costelloe was freed on bail and ordered to report twice weekly to Henry Street Garda station, as was Mr Shanahan. Both were remanded until July 17th.
