A teenager secured damages of €450,000 in the High Court yesterday arising from a two-car crash in which she received serious injuries.

Kyra Townsend (17) sued through her mother, Rebecca Sullivan, Derrygasson, Emyvale, Co Monaghan.

The settlement – without admission of liability – was given against the driver of one of the cars, Stephen Mac, Midleton, Co Armagh, who had no insurance, and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland.

Mr Justice Vivian Lavan approved the €450,000 offer but told Kyra it could never compensate her for what had occurred.
