Anne-Sophie Pic is the only woman in France to have three Michelin stars (and only the fourth ever). This establishment began 120 years ago under great-granny Sophie, then her grandfather and father ran the restaurant. Anne-Sophie was in management until food called her home in 1992. The hotel, south of Lyon, has contemporary chic rooms. Doubles from €190.

The hotel has just reopened for the summer season with a new chef, Luigi Tramontano. Tramontano, who garnered a Michelin star when working in Il Flauto di Pan in Ravello, cooks Mediterranean and regional cuisine. Ingredients include the fruits of the hotel’s orange and olive groves. The hotel has views of Sorrento Bay. Doubles from €290.

Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons,
Oxfordshire, England
Double Michelin-star chef Raymond Blanc has brought a taste of France to the quintessentially English village of Great Milton, where lavender swathes blend with a perfect lawn. There’s also an organic vegetable garden feeding the culinary creations. There are 32 rooms in this country house. Doubles from £545 (€636).
