Have you space for Third World supplies?

CHARITIES:IRISH PEOPLE travelling to the developing world have been encouraged to put aside a small part of their suitcase for medical supplies and educational materials which can be distributed to children in need by the Pack for a Purpose charity.

The organisation was founded on the principle that every little helps; all it takes is to use a small amount of holiday luggage space. Rebecca Rothney, chairwoman of the charity, says even “2.27kg can be as much as 400 pencils or five deflated soccer balls. It’s startling to see just how little some schools and clinics have to work with.” She says all travellers should be able to find space in their luggage for a bag of supplies. “If enough people make small contributions, we have the potential to make an enormous, positive impact.”

Details of how to get involved, what to bring and the tour operators which back and distribute the supplies are at packforapurpose.org.
