68: Renault Scenic – Proof you can have a good looking people carrier

We got an all-new Scenic this year, and it must be said that it’s pretty decent. MPVs are generally on the wane, thanks to the surge in popularity of seven-seat SUVs (as best exemplified by Peugeot’s 5008 and the Skoda Kodiaq) but the Scenic proves that there’s life in the traditional MPV concept yet. For a kick-off, it’s actually gorgeous and yes, we mean that sincerely.

Designed by Renault's styling genius Laurens Van Den Acker, it's easily the most handsome MPV currently on sale. The cabin suffers a bit from the same grey cheapness as the rest of the current Renault range, but it's comfortable, roomy, and properly versatile. And to drive it's not bad, if a touch unmemorable.

The long-serving 1.5 dCi diesel engine is still the pick of the engine range, although we’re still waiting for the fuel-saving mild hybrid version. Grand Scenic, with seven seats, is the one to have, and with the big Espace not coming to these shores, it’s arguably the best current Renault model.
