A 1930s house with an Art Deco-ish flavour, tucked away near the top of a cul-de-sac in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, is a comfortable family home which the current owners extended soon after buying in the early 1990s.

There’s potential to expand even further at the side of the house, but new owners are likely to retain the house’s distinctive period features.

Roslyn, a 142sq m (1,532sq ft) three-bed semi is at 20 Rosmeen Park, a road that's a few minutes' walk from Sandycove/Glasthule Dart station and Dún Laoghaire's People's Park. It is for sale through agent Vincent Finnegan for €895,000.

The good-sized entrance hall of the house has oak-panelled walls, polished oak floors and stairs with a handsome oak banister at the side. On the right the livingroom and diningroom – which also have polished oak floors – stretch from the front to the back of the house, connected by glazed double doors. There’s a large Art Deco-style tiled fireplace with an oak surround in the livingroom. French windows open from the diningroom into the back garden.

Wooden countertops

The kitchen-cum-sittingroom at the back of the house is a comfortable space divided by a breakfast bar. The fairly small kitchen has wooden countertops, cream painted units and a tiled floor. The sittingroom has rustic wooden beams, a polished timber floor and a solid fuel stove. There’s a utility area off the kitchen built in the original garage, with a door to the back garden.

Upstairs are three bedrooms, two doubles and a single, and a family bathroom. The two bedrooms at the back have views of Killiney Hill. Up a steep flight of stairs is a wide, narrow attic with two deep Velux windows which could be used as a study space or bedroom. A photograph at the top of the stairs shows Aisling Byrne, one of the owner's children, with Cathy MacAleavy, the sailing duo who competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

The very private rear garden has a lawn edged by a gravel path sloping gently down to a tall hedge and behind it, a wall beside the Metals, the walkway beside the Dart line between Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire. There's a patio area at one side of the garden. There's room to park a few cars in the gravelled space beside the lawn in the front garden.

Two houses sold recently on Rosmeen Park – number 16 for €850,569 in January this year, and number 29 for €855,000 in October.
