What to wear to the ploughing

Stylist Siobhán McHugh has put together five ready-to-wear outfits for any occasion at the National Ploughing Championships this week.

If you are still trying to choose your outfit for The National Ploughing Championship, fear not, as stylist Siobhán McHugh is at hand with ready-made outfits for the event. To save you the hassle of ‘ploughing’ through the shop rails she's put together five key looks that will have you fashion-ready at NPC 2014.

  1. The Smart-Casual Look:

While jeans can look and feel very casual, simply adding a blazer and heels can transform your outfit to a sharp, neat, put together look.

Blazer €50.00; OASIS, Ream wrap front roll sleeve blouse €40.00; RIVER ISLAND, Mid-wash alice kick flare jeans €68.00; RIVER ISLAND , Double Gusset Lock X Body Orange €11.00; PENNEYS, Zip detail ankle boots €107.00; NEXT

  1. Tonal Treasures

We are all guilty of it – wearing too much black. And who can blame us; it is safe fall-to colour that hides lumps and bumps. The major drawback, however, is that black doesn’t show your personality. If you are afraid of colour, start by introducing tonal shades such grey. Who knows, by making this simple change, it might lead you to wardrobe full of rainbow colours.

  1. Legs Eleven

If you’ve got ‘em, flaunt ‘em. While shorts can look good if you have the legs to match them, make sure to cover up elsewhere so that you are showing just the right amount of skin to be considered tasteful. Opaque tights can also make shorts more wearable for those of you of a more modest disposition.

Dogtooth Blanket Scarf €24.99; NEW LOOK, Red Herring Jumper €52.50; DEBENHAMS, Black High Waisted Stretch Shorts €30; RIVER ISLAND, Show Box Olivia Wellington Boots with Knit Cuff €26; LITTLEWOODS IRELAND

  1. Paint the town Bottle Green:

A statement autumnal bottle green coat will have you feeling season-ready and on-trend. It is also big enough to camouflage your nighttime top if you are going straight out on the town after the NPC.

Red Herring green faux fur coat €133.50; DEBENHAMS, Trim Peplum Top €59.99; LIPSY, Black Pony Mix Biker Boots €110; NEXT, Fearne Cotton Skinny Jeans €50; LITTLEWOODS IRELAND

  1. Dress Like the World is Your Catwalk:

Why not show off your stylish side; there will be lots of photographers around and you might just make the morning paper. Nothing says you know fashion more than a vibrant pink coat. And of course thanks to Kate Middleton, a classic dress is not complete until you add a nude shoe.

Buffalo Kerripump pink €138.00; ARNOTTS, JUVI Dainty Teardrop earrings; €55.00, Niamh O Neill Fuchsia Wool Crepe Christine Coat €515.00; KILKENNY STORE, Daisy May Lace Tweed Teal Dress EURO 165.00; CARRAIG DONN

Most importantly have fun with your style and don’t be afraid to experiment. Who knows; you might just win ‘Most Appropriately Dressed’.
