Fly Yellow Moon Geffen ****

Here, the lead singer of Guillemots, Fyfe Dangerfield, strikes out on his his first solo LP. Recorded over the course of a year, between rehearsals and after soundchecks, it's a record of exploration, and of endeavour.

On Livewire– a sunnily sweet ballad – Fyfe lays out his manifesto, singing: "We've got everything to play for, 1-1, half time." Tracks such as High Tidehearken to the Guillemots' seaside shuffle-pop, while others show Dangerfield branching off in a different direction. Faster Than the Setting Sunis epic, showcasing Dangerfield's capacity for writing a stadium-filler. Elsewhere, When You Walk in the Roomstammers into a honky-tonk piano stroll – as if Prince put aside laydeez in favour of country walks.
