Tiger Woods' chances of HSBC Champions tournament glory were rocked as he struggled on the third day in Shanghai after a course record-equalling 64 yesterday.

The world number one was five shots behind Retief Goosen, who tops the leaderboard after carding a three-under-par 69.

But Woods is confident that, if he makes a good start at the Sheshan International Golf Club tomorrow, he can still claim victory.

"As good as it was yesterday, it was bad today," said Woods when asked about his swing. "That goes from the full swing to the shorter swing with the putter. I was just struggling all day.

"It will have to be a great one tomorrow. 'Goose' is up there and he's playing solidly.

"Hopefully I can get off to a positive start on the front nine and make a bunch of birdies and keep things going on the back."

Despite a third round 73 Padraig Harrington is still well enough placed in a tie for eight on six under.

Level with Woods, and with as much chance of claiming victory, is Paul Casey, and the HSBC World Matchplay champion was pleased with his third-round display - a four-under 68..

"This is a tough golf course," he said. "So to finish on four under was a very good round of golf. "It could have been five if I had popped that one in on the last.

"Still three bogeys on the card and four under is a very good round of golf."
