Limerick created a big surprise when they beat Wicklow in the National Football League in Limerick yesterday.

It was the first league win by Limerick for 10 months and early in the game it looked as if Wicklow would have their expected win when they led by three points to one after 20 minutes.

However, Limerick's outstanding forward, Noel Frewen, struck a magnificent goal which rocked Wicklow, who might have been further behind at the interval but Frewen missed with a similar chance.

As it was, Limerick led 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval and the second half was pretty evenly contested though Wicklow had the better chances.

Eamon Scollard had a superb game in goal for Limerick, who had to play the last 16 minutes with only 14 players after Derek Ryan was sent off for a second bookable offence.
