Berti Vogts remains the manager of Scotland this morning but, it appears, only because the meeting at which he had been due to be dismissed never happened.
The board of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) had been expected to meet yesterday at Hampden Park, after which it was thought there would an announcement of Vogts's removal.
But there was no meeting and so Vogts staggers on. Few expect him to last the week, such has been the negative response to Scotland's start to their 2006 World Cup campaign,
One issue stalling a decision is Vogts's compensation, anticipated to be £500,000.
"There will be no meeting of the SFA board today and no statement on the position of Berti Vogts," said SFA spokesman Andy Mitchell. "We have said all along that there will be a series of meetings held to discuss the overall situation. The performance of Scotland in the World Cup qualifying campaign is under review.
"There will be a further statement in due course. I can confirm there will be a board meeting on Thursday, November 4th."
