Price is the best value

Almost from one extreme to the other

Almost from one extreme to the other. After the glamour and glitz of Augusta, the field for the Estoril Open - which marks the resumption of the PGA European Tour after almost a three-week break - pales in comparison.

Still, the €560,000 tournament (one of the lowest on the circuit) gives players the chance to regain their competitive appetite before next month's big-money tournaments. And, David Howell, certainly will be keen to continue the rich vein of form that had him at number one in the Order of Merit prior to Jose Maria Olazabal's triumph in Augusta.

If the horses for courses theory means anything, then there are a number of strong contenders. Paul McGinley actually challenged strongly when the Portugese Open was staged over this course in 1995 - but it is the previous year's winner, Phillip Price, who looks to be the best value on this occasion. Price is on offer at 25 to 1 and a combination of his return to form in the past two seasons, along with his liking for this course, makes him a good each-way bet.
