UCD 0 Derry 1:UCD STAY rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division table after a first-half goal from Stephen McLaughlin secured the points for Derry City at a wet and windy Belfield Bowl last night.

The Candystripes had an early chance when a free by Dermot McCaffrey on the right was headed just wide from 10 yards by Ryan McBride. College went close to breaking the deadlock on 19 minutes when a clever ball over the top by Paul Corry enabled midfielder Robbie Benson to get in an effort saved at the second attempt by goalkeeper Ger Doherty.

Derry scored on 32 minutes when McLaughlin ran on to a clever through ball from Owen Morrison and then fired past John Kelly from 10 yards.

Derry were happy to hold on for the three points especially after Simon Madden was sent off for a second yellow-card offence on 85 minutes. The Students did have one late chance only for Doherty to brilliantly save from Lyons.
