Cavan Gaels bridged a 23-year gap to capture the SFC title at Breffni Park. Taking advantage of a strong breeze, Gaels led by 0-8 to 0-3 at the interval.

A goal from Derek McCabe within 30 seconds of the restart gave Gowna a lifeline, but points from Niall Collins, Gavan Duffy, Paul O'Donnell and Mickey Graham saw Cavan Gaels through.
