Leinster looked destined to retain the women's interprovincial golf title at Carlow today, following yesterday's 6-3 win over Ulster.

Leinster, seeking a third championship in a row and a 22nd victory in all, followed up Wednesday's defeat of Munster (7-2), with wins in both the foursomes and singles yesterday.

Leinster won the foursomes 2-1 and the afternoon singles 4-2.

There was a major shock in the other match when Connacht scored a rare victory by defeating Munster.

The foundation for the Connacht win was laid in the morning foursomes, which they won 2 1/2 to a 1/2.

Munster fought back to win the singles 31/221/2 but Connacht emerged overall victory by 5-4

Today Ulster play Munster and Leinster meet Connacht.
