Ireland defeated Sweden 4-1 to win the Girls’ European Team Championships for the first time in Kokkola, Finland, this afternoon.
Twin sisters Leona and Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell), Laura McCarthy (Muskerry) and Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) got the perfect start this morning.
The Maguires and the McCarthy/Meadow pairing both recorded 2&1 wins to maintain their 100 per cent record in the format throughout the competition to leave just one point required form the afternoon singles for victory.
Leona Maguire did the honours with a two hole win over Emma Nilsson.
