RACING: Injured jockey Jimmy Mansell has been taken off a life support machine at Castlebar General Hospital and is breathing on his own, writes Brian O'Connor.

Last season's leading claiming rider received serious head injuries in a fall at Ballinrobe last Sunday and was on a life support machine until yesterday morning. Turf Club medical officer Dr Walter Halley reported: "He is semi-concious and breathing on his own. However he remains in a critical but stable condition."
