THE President of the Maldives called on industrialised states yesterday to cap emissions of the "greenhouse gases" blamed for global warming, in order to prevent small islands being engulfed by rising sea levels.
In a dramatic statement to the second day of the UN Earth summit, Mr Maumoon Abdul Gayoom told delegates that time was running out for the world's small islands.
