Why can’t we curb speeding drivers?

Sir, – During my regular journeys on the M7 and M9, I too have been left in the slipstream of a significant number of speeding cars. However, Michael Cleary’s claim (August 7th) that has was passed by 90 per cent of the cars cannot be substantiated as he has no idea how many cars were, like him, adhering to speed limits. He can only have seen those cars being driven faster or more slowly than his.

Nevertheless, his point that many speeding drivers will not slow down because the chances of being caught are almost nil is very well made. – Yours, etc,
