JAMES McNEIVE,
Sir, - Bray Town Council is about to foist a demented traffic plan on our town. It is proposed that 40 per cent of traffic through the Main Street will be diverted into narrow residential roads quite unsuitable for constant streams of cars and trucks. The Minister for Europe, Dick Roche TD, a local resident, has described the proposal as "utterly chaotic" and an "act of madness" (Bray People, July 4th).
Yet the procedure to implement the proposal is in train with the usual glossy brochures and minimal consultation with the citizens. The ironic truth is that the town council itself has largely created the traffic problem by permitting over-development in the town centre. The new traffic thus inevitably generated disgorges into the Main Street. Yet another example of bad planning, of putting development before infrastructure.
Is there no-one to shout stop? - Yours, etc.,
JAMES McNEIVE, Ashbury Park, Bray, Co Wicklow.
