Sending out a message on drugs costs

Sir, – Jack Shanahan (April 20th) referred to the need for internal communication lessons for the HSE. GPs throughout Ireland, since 2007, receive a copy of the Irish Medicines Formulary (IMF) twice yearly. It provides details of all prescription medicines licensed in Ireland together with prices – including all branded generics and true generics listed sequentially so that rapid price comparison is possible. Moreover, IMF is generically-driven to facilitate generic prescribing. It is perhaps unusual that in this case, the IMF is something to be truly applauded in Ireland today! – Yours, etc,
