BARBARA CASSERLY,
A chara, - While I agree with each point John O Callaghan made regarding our Government and their utter arrogance in dealing with the outcome of the Nice referendum, my conclusion on another vote is different.
In the last referendum I too voted No, and should we have to vote on the issue again, I did think that I would vote the same way. However I have come to the following conclusion: I voted No because I thought we were getting to far involved in the EU, and in time could start losing some of our autonomy, but now I think this would be a good thing.
I look at our Government - the recent scandals, the buoying up of semi-State monopolies, the brown-bagging, the high car taxes and registration taxes, the rising cost of living since the euro came in, the inflated house prices, the cost of renting, the tax evaders that get off scot-free, one TD in jail where half of them should probably be, and the sheer arrogance that they show to us, the electorate. . .and I think: well, why not be ruled from Europe - they couldn't do a worse job than that shower who currently look after us (oh sorry, I meant look after themselves).
In the next election I only have one voting strategy: ABFF! - Is mise,
