Magdalene nuns speak out

Sir, – It was important to hear the views of the nuns who worked in the Magdalene laundries (Patsy McGarry, Front page, March 8th). Having listened to the full interview (on RTÉ Radio 1's The God Slot ) and read the McAleese report, I think it is a shame that the nuns who provided refuge to these vulnerable women despite the limitations, when others offered nothing, feel it unwise to reveal their identity. I hope with time that they and others will share their stories in the confidence that most fair-minded people will appreciate their contribution to the most vulnerable at a time before the current welfare state was in place. – Yours, etc,
