Sir, – MP Norris (Letters, July 8th) provides a useful list of the goals that have not been scored. He forgot, however, the original of the species – draining the Shannon.
A betting man might also wager that the National Maternity Hospital will be shortly added to the list!

Sir, – In his list of Ireland’s irreconcilable goals, MP Norris has erroneously included Mayo in not having won an All-Ireland (Letters, July 8th).
Just for the record, Mayo has seven precious All-Ireland football titles, the men having won three and the ladies triumphant in four.
With the recent explosive improvement in team performance displaying strength and speed and ice-water in their veins, confidence is widespread in the county with Mayo winning another Sam almost a certainty in 2021. – Yours, etc,
