Travellers from the UK

Sir, – On July 19th England will remove all controls and expects to go to 100,000 Covid positive cases per day. The Irish border with the UK remains open.

Is it Government policy to keep Ireland open to imported UK infection? The Minister for Transport has stated that vaccinated people travelling from Britain will not have to quarantine at home from July 19th.

Is the common travel area so sacrosanct that even after Brexit the Government is willing to risk the Irish health and economy by not increasing the restrictions on travel from the UK.

– Yours, etc,

NIALL WALSH,

Dublin 18.
